METAIRIE, La. — Rafael Bush wanted the No. 36 when he was signed by the New Orleans Saints this past weekend.

Fans in the greater New Orleans metropolitan area wanted him to take the No. 25.

After all, many already had No. 25 Saints jerseys with the name Bush on the back, even if they were for Reggie and not Rafael.

NEW ORLEANS — Defensive end Will Smith, who previously was suspended for the first four games, appears likely to play in Sunday’s season opener against the Washington Redskins.

The New Orleans Saints activated Smith onto their regular roster Saturday afternoon. The Saints also released receiver Adrian Arrington and fullback Korey Hall and placed offensive tackle Marcel Jones on injured reserve.

Around the NFC South!

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Andrew Brandt writes that an appeals panel’s decision to overturn the suspensions of players in the bounty saga is a blow to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s power, at least in the short term. But this story is far from over. The panel simply said that Goodell did not have the jurisdiction to issue punishments based on non-contract payments. Goodell still can issue discipline on detrimental contact. Maybe it will be fines or shorter suspensions, but I think Goodell still will try to send a strong message about bounty programs.

A re-post from Facebook.

I was born in 1965, the Saints in 1967. I went to my 1st game in 1969. I remember watching Tom Dempsey the kick. I saw Archie looking up at the blue sky in Tulane stadium more than I’d like to remember. I saw the Dome Patrol wreak havoc on every QB that entered the Superdome. I have lived through thick and thin. I have always proudly worn my Black and Gold and proudly spoke of my team to anyone who listens. I’ve seen 13-3 and I’ve seen 1-15. I never once wore a bag on my head. I thought it was disrespectful of the team I was so passionate about. I am part of the WHO DAT NATION! A proud and dedicated bunch. I will persevere. I will bow my head in disgust today with what has happened, but I will never lose faith. I bleed Black and Gold. I always have, I always will. I am a Saint.

Meet Jane Mitchell today.

Tulane Wednesday Feb. 8 @ 6pm

Jane wasn’t a sports fan growing up, but interviewing professional athletes makes me appreciate their journey and what we can learn from them – including giving back

One of the things she emphasizes in her book is the importance of recognizing and exploring the Good Sports Story… not to glaze over hard times/issues etc., but to get to know athletes as people and what drives them and why, especially the good guys. Drew is a great example of how he has stayed true to himself, and I think having known him early, and to be able to share what he said him from the early part of his career, offers a different dimension.

So if you are around Tulane today stop and meet Jane and see what she has to say.. she is a fan of the Who Dat Nation
