Michael Thomas, WR, second round: When is it OK to declare someone a “preseason superstar?” Thomas’ legend kept growing with two more fantastic catches in the preseason opener — continuing what he started early in training camp. Most importantly, coach Sean Payton and New Orleans’ quarterbacks are talking about the trust they have quickly developed in Thomas, who attacks the ball at its highest point and really uses his 6-foot-3, 212-pound frame. Whether he’s the No. 2 or No. 3 receiver, he looks poised to make an early impact.

Kai Forbath‘s 52-yard field goal to lift the Saints over the Giants, 52-49, as time expired in the Super Dome on Sunday afternoon was as powerful and clutch a kick as we’ve seen in the NFL this year.
It was also the worst possible end to the best football game we’ve seen all season.
For almost 60 minutes, we were captivated by Drew Brees, whose 507-yard, seven-touchdown performance tied an NFL single-game record for most scores thrown in a game. Eli Manning hurled a career-high six touchdown passes for more than 350 yards. The game yielded more than 1,000 total yards, 60 first downs and 800 yards passing.
When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #91, the choice is limited to linebackers Ken Marchiol and Kasim Edebali, and defensive linemen Monte Bennett, Robert “Pig” Goff, Brady Smith, Grady Jackson, and Will Smith.
Our selection is going to be Smith, a defensive end, who played for the Saints for 10 years, from 2004-2013.
After playing his college football at Ohio St., Smith was selected by the Saints in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Like we alluded to earlier, the Saints are largely working off the benefit of an impossibly weak division — their closest competition for a playoff berth are the Carolina Panthers, who are currently fielding a platoon of receivers you’ve never heard of and still rely on Cam Newton to be their best running back. So basically, if the Saints can manage to be competent, they’ll find themselves in possession of a postseason birth. That’s a nice position to be in, at least until they have to play somewhere that isn’t a dome (sorry, we can’t help it).
The Saints are in first place in the NFC South after a badly-needed road win against the Carolina Panthers, and the Cajun Cannon was very encouraged with the win and the added momentum after the win against Green Bay.
“We have to classify this as a butt-whoopin. Especially in Carolina’s back yard, you win 28-10? Tou shouldn’t be surprised! When you look a the whole game it was 2-1 in a number of categories. Almost 2-1 in total first downs, 27 for Saints, 15 for Carolina, so you talk about sustained drives.. you talk about time of possession, the Saints right at 35 mintues and Carolina only 24. When you look at that and truly break it down, you can say the Saints were in control!”
Bobby had said before the game that the running game was crucial. How did Mark Ingram’s play factor in?
