Report: Saints DE Marcus Davenport out for season with foot injury

New Orleans Saints defensive end Marcus Davenport will need season-ending surgery to repair an injury sustained to his foot, according to an NFL Network report.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport first reported the news Tuesday evening. Rapoport later reported that Davenport saw Dr. Robert Anderson, a foot expert based out of Green Bay who serves as the Packers’ assistant team physician, for a second opinion.

Davenport left Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth quarter with a non-contact injury.

Can Saints add Leonard Fournette to their under-100 club?

But now they will be facing a resurgent Fournette on his home turf at Jacksonville on Sunday. The powerful 6-foot, 228-pound running back ranks third in the NFL with 512 rushing yards after busting loose for 225 yards two weeks ago and 108 last week.

The Saints hold the all-time ledger against the Jaguars, 4-2, and have won the last three matchups in the series.

A look at all the Saints and Jaguars’ position groups and who has the edge:

QUARTERBACK:

Saints quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is coming off his best game since Week 7 of the 2015 season. Against the Buccaneers, Bridgewater completed 76.5 percent of his passes for 314 yards and four passing touchdowns, the latter of which tied his career-high.

Through his five games, Bridgewater’s completion percentage of 70.25 percent ranks fourth among all NFL quarterbacks. And his yards per game rank 26th.
