Saints vs Houston

New Orleans will travel to face the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium for their second preseason contest. The Saints and Texans have played each other every preseason since 2008 except for one, with the two clubs split at 4-4 in the preseason and at 2-2 in the regular season. New Orleans fell to the defending NFC South champions in both a preseason contest at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2015 and in a regular season matchup in Houston.

Michael Thomas, WR, second round: When is it OK to declare someone a “preseason superstar?” Thomas’ legend kept growing with two more fantastic catches in the preseason opener — continuing what he started early in training camp. Most importantly, coach Sean Payton and New Orleans’ quarterbacks are talking about the trust they have quickly developed in Thomas, who attacks the ball at its highest point and really uses his 6-foot-3, 212-pound frame. Whether he’s the No. 2 or No. 3 receiver, he looks poised to make an early impact.

The Saints committed turnovers on two of their first four plays. Not how you want to start a game or the preseason.

Saints release first unofficial depth chart of 2016

HITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The NFL requires teams to provide unofficial depth charts before each preseason game, and the New Orleans Saints released their first one on Sunday evening.

Most teams have their public relations department compile preseason depth charts, so anything listed on the Saints’ release should be taken with a grain of salt.

However, it’s still worth looking at the initial depth chart, if only to compare it to what happens when the Saints play the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
