Panthers give Teddy Bridgewater $63M deal; Cam Newton unhappy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On the same day the Carolina Panthers gave Cam Newton permission to seek a trade that he says he didn’t ask for, the team agreed to give free-agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater a three-year, $63 million deal, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Bridgewater is guaranteed $40 million in the first two seasons, a league source told ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

The contract is expected to be done by the time the new league year begins Wednesday, the source said.

That news came hours after Newton responded to the team’s post on Instagram saying that he could seek a trade.

Sources: Drew Brees reaches 2-year deal with Saints

METAIRIE, La. — Drew Brees has agreed to a two-year deal with the New Orleans Saints that is worth $50 million, sources told ESPN on Tuesday.

The $25 million per year is the same value as the previous deal he signed with the Saints in 2018. The deal is even more team-friendly than last time, considering the inflation of quarterback salaries since then.

Saints’ Drew Brees: ‘I’m Who Dat Nation for life’

Drew Brees is set to return for his 20th NFL season and during an appearance on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show, the Pro Bowl quarterback said he’s unsure of his plans beyond 2020 but said he’d only play any future seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

“Listen, I don’t have any intention of going anywhere,” Brees said. “I don’t care what the offer would be or what the situation might be. I’m Who Dat Nation for life.

“And so, as long as they’ll have me and as long as I want to play, that’s where I’ll be.”

Brees turned 41 in January made the statement when asked about fellow all-time great Tom Brady’s potential departure from the New England Patiots. Brees said on the show his goal is to win another championship much like Brady.
