NFL fines all Saints wearing red and green tape against Atlanta

wwltv.com

METAIRIE, La. — The NFL let several Saints players know that they can wear black and gold and nothing else.

In addition to running back Pierre Thomas, receivers Devery Henderson, Lance Moore, Marques Colston and Robert Meachem were fined $5,000 for wearing red and green tape around their ankles during New Orleans’ win over Atlanta Monday night

Falcons, Saints should use caution

By Pat Yasinskas

If we’ve learned anything about Sean Payton and Mike Smith this season, it’s that neither coach likes to use the brakes.

Whether it’s Payton leaving Drew Brees in during a blowout win against the Falcons on Monday night or Smith going for it on fourth-and-inches in overtime against the Saints earlier in the season, both coaches have demonstrated aggressive styles.

That’s why it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that Payton said the Saints will play their starters in Sunday’s season finale against the Carolina Panthers and Smith said the Falcons will do the same against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Being aggressive is a big part of the reason the Saints and Falcons already have clinched playoff berths. But maybe it’s time for Payton and Smith to take their feet off the accelerator, just for a bit.

Scrooge? NFL fines Thomas for Christmas bow

Bradley Handwerger / WWLTV.com Sports Reporter

METAIRIE, La.  ― Present-wrapping bows at your local corner store likely cost no more than a dollar.

For Pierre Thomas, one small golden bow cost much, much more.

The NFL fined the Saints’ running back $7,500 for using a prop after scoring a touchdown in New Orleans’ 45-16 win over Atlanta.

Additionally, Thomas was fined $5,000 for wearing red and green tape on his wrists, a violation of the league’s uniform policy.

“It was an expensive bow I just gave out,” Thomas said.

By Thursday afternoon, teammates were having fun with Thomas. Linebacker Scott Shanle pinned a giant red bow on top of the letters Thomas received from the NFL notifying him of the fines.

Thomas laughed when asked about it, but said he felt good about the gesture after the touchdown, which ended with him giving one lucky fan the football he scored with.

“That’s something I wanted to do,” Thomas said. “I heard she was very happy and very grateful for it. I’m just happy I could make somebody’s Christmas and the New Orleans Saints game enjoyable, too, to watch.”

New Orleans Saints 2012 opponents have been determined

Jeff Duncan, The Times-Picayune

Thanks to the whims of the NFL scheduling formula, the New Orleans Saints will have to make a second trip to Green Bay to play the Packers next season.

In fact, depending on what happens in the NFC playoffs, next season’s trip could be the Saints’ third to Lambeau Field in a one-year span. Before this year’s season opener on Sept. 8, won by the Packers 42-34, the Saints had played only three games in the hallowed stadium.

The Who Dat Mark !

The people at “Who Dat Mark ” started the company mainly in support of Drew Brees and what he has done for the Saints and the city of New Orleans. They also hope that we can generate some money for the Brees Dream Foundation (They are donating 9 cents for every pack of temporary tattoos sold).
The people at “Who Dat Mark”  support the Saints because they grew up in Louisiana and they come from a long line of Saints fans.

The way this team has transformed into winners has been incredible to watch and they think Drew Brees is a big part of that. So hopefully with the Who Dat Mark fans can show their support for Brees and at the same time donate some money to a good cause.

Mark Ingram suffers setback

By Pat Yasinskas

We’ve got some very significant injury news out of New Orleans and updates on other injuries of note all around the NFC South.

New Orleans running back Mark Ingram, who has missed the past three games with a toe injury, suffered what coach Sean Payton called a setback in his recovery. Ingram aggravated the injury when he returned to practice Wednesday and did not practice Thursday. Receiver Lance Moore (hamstring) missed his second straight day of practice. On the bright side, safety Malcolm Jenkins (neck) and linebacker Jonathan Vilma returned to practice on a limited basis after sitting out Wednesday.
