With the season now in the rearview mirror – though some would say not far enough behind with wounds still open – we believe at WWLTV.com it’s time to hit on our yearly “roster check,” our assessment of who should be or should not be with the club come training camp in July.

We don’t think this will help close the wound that the playoff game opened. It might, in fact, open it more and for that we apologize.

New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham featured in USA Network special Friday

New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, who had a remarkable personal odyssey from foster homes to NFL stardom, will be a part of a USA Network special this Friday evening. The show, to air at 6 p.m., features Graham mentoring a teenager in trouble.

The teenager in question is Ashton Randall, 14, of New Orleans. Randall’s father was murdered and his mother lost custody of him due to drug addiction, according to the network. He is thus about to enter a Boy’s Town foster home and Graham is with him to offer support

Brees ”expects” Saints to be in Super Bowl in Superdome

Drew Brees is in Indianapolis, where Super Bowl XLVI will be played Sunday. Next year, the Super Bowl will be played at the Superdome.

“We expect to be there,” Brees told the NFL Network. “I would love nothing more than to be able to bring that to our fans… a home team playing in a New Orleans Super Bowl.”

No team has ever played on a Super Bowl in its own stadium.

New Orleans Saints reportedly will hire Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator

The New Orleans Saints have decided to hire former St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo as the team’s next defensive coordinator, Fox’s Jay Glazer reported Thursday afternoon. Prior to coaching the Rams for the three seasons Spagnuolo was the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants.

NFC South players not signed for 2012

A lot can change between now and the start of free agency and I sure don’t see any way the New Orleans Saints let quarterback/King Drew Brees walk away. I also think there’s a pretty good chance tight end Tony Gonzalez can return to the Atlanta Falcons if he chooses. Same for cornerback Ronde Barber with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and maybe even Jeremy Shockey with the Carolina Panthers.

But all we know about those guys at the moment is they’re not under contract for 2012. We’ll do much more on free agency as it gets closer but I’ve got the complete list of every NFC South player presently not under contract for 2012.

I’ll list them by team here and we’ll only go with the guys who have at least four years of service and can become unrestricted free agents. We’ll deal with restricted and exclusive-rights free agents at another time.

Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has agreed to join the St. Louis Rams, according to the NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora. The St. Louis Dispatch also confirmed that Williams has agreed to join the Rams.

The move has been anticipated in recent weeks, since Williams’ contract was set to expire with the Saints and his close friend Jeff Fisher was hired as the Rams’ head coach.

Report: Gregg Williams leaving Saints

This isn’t a huge surprise, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that New Orleans offensive coordinator Gregg Williams is expected to leave the Saints and join Jeff Fisher in St. Louis.

Williams worked for Fisher in Tennessee and the two are close friends. Williams’ contract with New Orleans is expiring and there had been speculation he would join Fisher. Williams joined the Saints in 2009 and his trademark opportunistic defense came up with lots of turnovers as New Orleans won the Super Bowl that season.
